CIVIX is a non-partisan, registered charity dedicated to building the skills and habits of active and informed citizenship among youth.
Our mission is to strengthen democracy through experiential civic education. We create programming and resources that empower teachers to take real-life political events and turn them into teachable moments in the classroom.
Rep Day aims to help students develop a better understanding of, and sense of trust in, the people and institutions within our democracy.
In advance of the meeting, students learn about government and elected representatives, examine their constituency and current political issues, and generate questions to ask their Member of Parliament. Registered schools will have access to lesson plans and support tools to help with this learning and preparation.
During the meeting, the Member of Parliament will discuss their role and experience as a parliamentarian and engage students in discussion about their concerns and needs.

My class was so excited. I know that even virtually this left a lasting impression on my students. Definitely a highlight of this unprecedented year.
Being able to interact with our MP made them much more interested in how our government works. They now view our MP as a “real person”, who they might be able to contact if they had a question or a concern.
