No. These municipal meetings are non-partisan and educational, and the goal is to put a face to politics and to dispel negative attitudes towards politicians and the political process by replacing them with greater knowledge about government and its institutions. The feedback over the years has been very positive.

CIVIX has put together a sample framework with suggestions on how to structure an hour-long Rep Day visit. It often works well to have a moderator (teacher or student) to keep the visit on schedule and organized.

Educators are welcome to adapt the framework and agenda to suit class needs. We suggest educators and local offices deciding on the agenda format prior to the meeting.

We typically encourage smaller groups (50 students) for a more engaging and intimate meeting, but you’re welcome to combine classes for a larger group! We can also try to schedule two shorter back-to-back sessions.

Feel free to send us an email at [email protected] to discuss configuration options.

We love to see Rep Day in action!

Elected officials and schools should confirm in advance that photos can be shared on social media. Please also ensure that media release forms have been signed by your students’ parents or guardians. Any social media can be tagged with #RepDay @CIVIX_Canada and @amopolicy, and we will re-post all photos that we see.

We discourage any media or parents from being present, so that the emphasis remains on the students and meaningful discussion with their elected official.
