Rep Day connects students with their elected representatives for an in-person meeting, and aims to build understanding and interest of young people regarding politicians and the political process.
Given the current political climate, Rep Day provides an opportunity to break down assumptions, biases and other feelings around the political process and politicians. Rep Day is an important opportunity to support young people to develop a better understanding of and sense of trust in the people and institutions within our democracy.
The municipal Rep Day pilot project will take place in the Winter and Spring 2025 in eight municipalities across Ontario.
These educational meetings usually last around one hour long, and generally consist of informal Q&A-style discussions with students from grades 4 to 12.
CIVIX will provide tools for elected officials to facilitate engaging discussions with students, and offer timely reminders for all parties involved in the pilot program.
Elected officials will also have access to a conversation guide and operations manual to prompt healthy, engaging and constructive discussions in their local communities.
